A high-class footballer (soccer player) is paid an average of $6,240,000 per year, not including deals for new clubs and bonuses. Compare this to people who work in emergency services, such as doctors, police officers and firefighters.

The average brain surgeon, someone who saves lives on a daily basis, is paid $600,000 per year. While this is certainly no small amount of money, it is merely pocket change when compared to a footballer's salary.

Compare what each job entails. Doctors, police officers and firefighters not only save lives but put their own at great risk. A footballer is paid ridiculous amounts of money to kick a ball around for an hour and a half every week or so.

Having said that, I do respect the enormous amount of work that athletes have to put in to their training even to reach a good level, and then the work they have to do to keep themselves at that level.

Doctors, nurses, police and so on study for years to reach their goal and get into the occupation they want, footballers and pretty much all athletes get a hero's welcome to any country they visit, doctors and nurses get recognition within the hospital they work in and that's about it.

On top of that, only certain people watch football games. A vastly superior number of people receive medical care and education. Should the public be more appreciative of the people who cure cancer, or put out their house fires, rather than almost "worshipping" musicians, actors, and athletes?

This is just another one of the many problems in the world. If it isn't sorted out soon... Well, that's a different kind of cancer.

Do you think that athletes, actors, musicians, etc, should be paid more than the emergency services? I want your opinions.

Honestly, I'd like to see celebraties make less money, and everyone else make more, to the point were everyone is making about the same. But that'll never happen. Tragically, if your only skill in life is something like land management, you're doomed to only make about $19,000 a year. Or, if you're like some of the people out where I live, and the only thing you're qualified to do is break and train horses - You can expect to live off of only about $12,000.

I'd like to see the "grunt labor" of America actually earn the sweat that's put into it, and I'd like to see jobs like Tech Support, NOT BE OUTSOURCED.

But, to be frank, I'm wasting my time.

I think that if you want your soccer player to make less money, then you'll have to convince everyone to stop watching. Because it's not our watching that puts 90% of that money in their pocket, it's the advertisements on the sides of the field and during the commercials. It's every Nike checkmark and Adidas logo stamped over their bodies. Advertisers are paying millions to make sure their products are being CONSTANTLY seen.

Advertisers won't, however, wake you up every 6 minutes during surgery and make you look at posters. And for that, we should be glad.

If the medical industry professionals were paid more, than we'd be the ones paying them. The medical industry is already currupt enough. They're publically traded companies who's only legal responsibility is to increase shareholder value, NOT TO CURE DISEASE.

Anyone who thinks the medical industry gives a crap about curing them has overlooked the fact that it is first and foremost a business. Cancer and AIDS are big business. Un-natural business that was man made - it wasn't around 100 years ago, and it shouldn't be around now.

Then to make matters worse, they delute the medicine we do have. Penacilin used to cure everything. Now it doesn't do jack crap because "the bacteria have evolved an immunity". Bull crap by friend. Any form of evolution, even the simplest, takes hundreds, if not hundreds of THOUSANDS of years. Penacilin hasn't been around that long.

I can think of much more deserving people than both Celebraties AND Doctors who need to make more money.
