I've decided to nake a fake identity and use it for educational purposes. I'm currently in the process of bringing my fake person "Kevin Mercado" to 'life' by signing them up for various accounts, as well as adding their name and phone number to various white pages and search engines.
Once Kevin's identity is established, I will do all the stupid things that people do online to get their identity stolen. I will do this to test just how quickly an identity can be stolen, how quickly it can be detected, and how quickly it can be stopped.
This is a study that, as far as I'm aware, has never been done.
Kevin Mercado so far has:
eBay Account
Myspace Profile
Yahoo Personals Profile
Hoverspot Profile
Tagged Profile
Afterdawn Account
Wamu Checking Account
So far, "Kevin" has made some very common mistakes that could jeapordize his security. Mistakes such as:
Re-using passwords.
Re-using usernames.
Linking profiles and sites to each other.
Having email address publicly viewable.
So on so forth.
I will be keeping a journal of what has happened to Kevin each day that I can do so. _________________

If you want any fake identities you need only ask me, I have 40,000 of them that I ordered free from that generator _________________

Indeed.
I didn't feel up to a 40,000 order, but I did get 8000, and I was pleased to see that they were really random. 8000 entries, and not a single duplicate refference from the SSN, the Addresses, phone numbers, or the credit card numbers _________________

It appears people like Kevin... Or at least Sweetie79's popularity is shining through the Kevin Mercado project...
Today's Friday, and I'm decently pleased with how established Kevin is. So, starting Monday, I'll be using my bedroom desktop SOLELY as Kevin Mercado, making all the mistakes the standard user these days makes (P2P File Sharing, chat room use, downloading files that might be regretible, and participating is sites that might not be trust worthy, just because they have the content I was after). Yes indeed, I'll probably end up spending a lot of time cleaning up that desktop after I get Kevin Mercado's identity stolen.
In the mean time, here's some humours whatnots relating to the kevin project.
Kevin is the most perfect non-existant person ever, apparently.
I'm sure you do... Weirdo...
Umm... No? _________________
