Go to your local Wal Mart or WinDixie and take a look in the bakery or deli section. You may not notice it right away, but if you look around you'll notice "Sell by" dates on all the stuff. Ever wonder what happens to the stuff at the close of that day? Well I'll tell you, it doesn't get donated to Homeless Shelters, YMCAs, Orphanages, or any needy organazation. It doesn't even make its way to prisoners. This food, which still has, on average, another two weeks before it goes bad, is taken to the dumpster, under the supervision of the manager, and all the containers opened, then throw into the dumpster.

That is a lot of food that could be, oh I don't know... Solving world hunger? We have more food in almost any 3 gas stations that in most third world countries. Not only that, but there are tons of hungry people right here in America, but I digress, because no one cares about them. After all, we're so concerned with freshness, we won't buy something that has been on the bakery shelves for more than 4 days, even if it lasts weeks at room temperature, and longer if refridgerated. And if we can't have fresh, we should throw it away.

Somehow I'm sure that the people running our under-fonded orphanages or walking around in Ethiopea (typo?) won't care too terribly much if their donout is a shade less than perfectly fresh (after all, a stale donout is just a bagel).

Ahhh! What a waste! How dare they throw out perfectly good Baked goods, such as delicious cupcakes and cookies, Why, it's an outrage! The least they could do is mark the prices down so we could buy them last minute or something!

Yes... But the fact at hand is that there are too many people in dier need of these things being thrown away (baked goods, and deli meat). This may not sound like thanksgiving dinner to you or me, but to those in need, everything helps.

They don't make it stupidly cheap at any of the bakerys I go to. They might mark it down to about a dollar or a dollar and half, dependant on what it is, but large items like cakes, just get thrown away.
