Hey everyone, I want your opinion on something here. There is a local band (Shadow of Nine out of Elizabethtown, KY) getting a start in the music world and is needing some input. Take a listen and let me know what you think! Thanks for listening!! _________________ Never fear what others think, because the people who mind don't matter and the people who matter don't mind. Alright... Rita and I both listened to it, yet we have differing opinions...
As it is, I feel that it sort of falls into the "Adult Contemporary" Genre, but I feel that it could really benefit from a stable chorus (or as Rita notes, a definate pickup where he sings more passionately).
One improvement I would make would be to have your all your audio on independant channels - in other words, have the vocals to one, the drums to another, and the guitar to another, and so on. By doing it this way, you can digitally adjust each volume, as well as make tone adjustments. In this case, I feel that his voice should be more subtle... There's some good instrement work going on in the background, but you can barely hear it over him. Programs like GarageBand (mac) and Finale 2005 or up (Windows) can do this for you...
But yeah... I like the melody, and the words are nice too, though slightly overpowering. And as far as potential, this song is great - but potential is just that - potential. Keep your words, just sing them softly, and make sure you throw in a couple more verses and a repeating chorus. Also, towards the end, you may want to have it peak up for the last chorus (meaning he sings it really emotionally) and then do what is known as a "boil down" untill his voice is the ending solo. A "boil down" is where the insterments fade/stop one by one leaving the lead singer's voice quietly in chorus. If the last few words sung in this way are deep, then it will leave a lasting impact on listeners.

thanks for the input, believe it or not all he has at the moment to record anything is his computer and a mic... he should be hitting the studios in a few months. I will send your input to him as he has requested. Thanks again for listening! _________________ Never fear what others think, because the people who mind don't matter and the people who matter don't mind. True friends stick with you no matter what.

i really would like to be able to help you with your question, but unfortunatley i do not know... if you would like you could direct your question to Shadow of Nine yourself at http://www.myspace.com/jontaul
he has posted a new song on his page as well _________________ Never fear what others think, because the people who mind don't matter and the people who matter don't mind. True friends stick with you no matter what.

To answer flozz's question - to have multiple mic imputs you'd need to buy a studio card. Delta Media makes a few nice ones if I remember right.
But if you don't have a few hundred bucks to throw into studio quality, you can record all of your audio on one microphone at seperate times, then just splice them together with the music making program of your choice. For example, play your drums, just like you would if playing with a band, making sure to keep tempo, then repeat with guitar, vocals, bass, etc. You'll soon have an MP3 or WAV for all your insterments, then you simply have to merge them into one MP3, so they all play at the same time. _________________
