As many of you know, my birthday recently came and went. Many of you either IM'd, emailed, and/or posted your birthday wishes for me (thank you all very much).

One thing I can say I wasn't suspecting, however, was an email from the MyCokeRewards program.

I got an email with the subject line "Happy Birthday from MyCokeRewards" and I thought to myself "Sweet, maybe they gave me like 10 points or something." 10 points wouldn't add up to much of anything, but it saves me from having to enter in like... 4 codes from bottle caps (cause frankly I don't drink that much Coca~Cola).

This is what I ended up with:

Gee, thanks... Thank you for the picture of that ugly dog, which is no doubt copyrighted, so in actually you gave me nothing. Awesome. Thanks for, you know, not sparing me 10 measly points from your completely self-contained economy. I mean sure, if one of the players on my WoW server has a birthday I'd give them 50 gold (500000 copper) and a complementary level-up, but hey, I can understand that you can't spare with 10 points.

After all, I mean, I'm rocking out just fine with my amazingly high 3 points.

I can spend that on... ... ...nothing, eh? Oh well that's not the point, I guess.

When it comes to birthdays, the thought only counts amongst friends and loved ones. Corperate America, however, should pony up some dough, lol. 10 points. That's like... $0.14 (give or take). Once a year. That'd be enough to make me go out and buy some more coke. But nope. Nadda. Just a picture of a dog.

I mean, sure, I'm not looking for any sort of meaningful message in my automated Happy Birthday email ("To a valued customer on his birthday... Do you remember the times we used to share? You'd watch our commercials and our jingle would get stuck in your head... You'd always choose our product at fast food chains if they didn't carry Barq's Rootbeer... Remember when you entered the coke reward code and got only 3 points and you were like 'well forget this then' ? We remember, and look forward to another year of happy memories with you. -- Coca~Cola") but it seems like that dog went through more effort for someone's birthday than the company did.

At least you got a message from someone. That's more than I got on my birthday.

True... I'm still bummed about the way your birthday worked out.

I just noticed something too... This came days after my birthday (which is NOT on the 18th, as this email would have us all to believe). I know I registered with the right date..
