If you've ever had Kellog's Corn Pops, you'll know what I'm talking about, if you haven't go out and get some. The cereal itself is nothing phenominal, but the instant you open the box, you know you're dealing with something speacil.

We're all used to the plastic bags inside the cereal boxes, but inside the Corn Pops box is something different entirely. Its some weird sort of material that seems to defy the boundries of what I do and do not know. It looks like paper, yet feels a bit like cloth. Wierder still is the fact that you can mold it any way you want and it just sort of stays there without springing out in any direction.

Surely the humble Corn Pop is in no way shape or form in need of this seemingly space age technology... But thats just the thing, they've had those bags for nearly 50 years now (so, infact, it is "space age" technology...) yet none of the other cereals have picked up on it... If you pick up any other cereal, even others by the Kellog's company, you won't find that bag... Its like all the Corn Pops in the world have to be made in a Zero Gravity enviroment, and that bag is the only thing suitable. In fact, the thought ran through my mind that all the Corn Pops are imported here from the International Space Station, which is secretly funded by various breakfast cereal companies. After all, we all know that NASA stands for "Not Another Secret Agency", which is why their full title is NASAFBVCC ("Not Another Secret Agency Funded By Various Cereal Companies")...

Okay, so my seriousness has drifted, the fact remains that the bag inside Corn Pops is perhapes the most perplexing thing about Breakfast, second only to why Bacon is darn delicious...

I sent an e-mail to Kellogg's and got the following reply:

Quote:
Thank you for asking about the different material we use for the inner packaging in Kellogg's® Corn Pops® cereal.

We base our choices for both inner and outer packaging materials on our need to deliver fresh product to stores in the best possible condition. We look at our packaging to control the absorption of moisture, control breakage and prevent any other type of damage that might occur during the shipping and handling of our foods.

Our Corn Pops are formulated differently than other cereal products and consequently have a very distinct texture. This material is simply the best kind of material to maintain the product's quality.

We are very grateful for your loyalty and appreciate the time you took to contact our company.

Sincerely,
Pablo A. Martinez

So I guess that's an answer... But I'm pleased to having something directly from the company - thank you very much for that.
