For some reason the News Abroad section is reading that the last post took place on Thu Jan 01, 1970 12:00 am... This is amazing to because the site hasn't been around for a month just yet, and more amazing because the internet did not exist in 1970.

Well the problem seems to be fixed... and a day has passed without it comming back, so I claim victory.

I'd also like to brag that at this moment in time, it seems everyone is satisfied at least enough to not put anything in the Feedback / Suggestions forum, lol.

I realise that this thread will soon be a year old, but I really must point out a mistaken historical fact that has been bothering me for some time. I'm not sure if you've fallen victim to a lack of knowledge in this area or if you simply made a human error - but the internet DID exist in 1970 as a form of military communication.

What you should have said is that the WWW (World Wide Web) did not exist - for indeed it is a more recent innovation.

There. Now that we've cleared that up, I'll keep my history geek side contained for another year.

/your friendly neihbourhood Rob.

What the military had in 1970 could hardly be counted as internet. Even the cheesey internet you could force onto Windows 3.1 was better, lol.

But I suppose technically, you're right...

On a side note: Is that the British way of spelling Neighborhood? Or did you just feel like typo'ing today? I assume it's the British way because of the seemingly unnessicary u that was thrown in. Color/Colour, Favor/Favour, so on.

Yes that is the British way, which is the way I learned (and indeed, I am still supposed to be learning) in school.

Man, I thought I knew how to spell like a Brit, but apparently, I don't. I would have never thought to omit the g in neighborhood because it was silent...

How do you guys handle silent letters most of the time? I know you pronounce the h in herb, while in American English it's typically silent. But surely you can't do that with things like knife, knights, pneumonia, and what have you...

i am beginning to think learning a foreign language would be easier sometimes than having to learn the differences between the "american" language and the other "types" of english out there... talk about confusing...

"American" is not a language, it is a dialect, with many forms of regional sub-dialects. "English" is the language, with various dialects all over the world such as American, Australian, etc.
